Every question patients, nurses and pharmacists ask us about transporting insulin, biologics, fertility hormones, growth hormone and vaccines — answered in one place. At the bottom, verified reviews from doctors, nurses and pharmacists explaining why they recommend the Thermova Case with CryoKey.
Most "travel coolers" either melt, freeze your medication, or give you no proof of what happened. Thermova actively holds 2–8 °C with a rechargeable battery, and the CryoKey — an independent smart card inside the case — logs temperature continuously and produces a cryptographically signed receipt for every journey. Pharmacies, insurers and clinicians can verify it. Built in Tuttlingen, Germany, under ISO 9001 / 13485 quality systems.
Most modern insulins are safe for 28 days at room temperature (≤ 30 °C), but some long-acting analogs such as Toujeo (42 days) and Tresiba (56 days) tolerate longer windows. Once the carton says 'discard after X days at room temp', that clock starts the moment it leaves 2–8 °C — even if you put it back in the fridge.
Insulin loses potency rapidly above 30 °C and is destroyed if frozen below 0 °C. A single freeze cycle is enough to ruin a vial or pen, which is why simple ice packs are risky — they often drop below 0 °C against the medicine.
Yes, but the room-temperature 'in-use' clock keeps ticking. Putting it back in the fridge does not reset the 28-day window. The Thermova Case keeps insulin in the 2–8 °C band the whole time, so the in-use clock never starts during transport.
Yes — insulin and pens are allowed in carry-on. The real risk is the cargo hold (can drop below freezing) and long layovers in hot climates. An active-cooling case with a verified log is the safest way.
Yes. Medication, ice packs and active medical coolers are exempt from the 100 ml liquid rule when declared. Carrying a doctor's note and the Thermova log makes the conversation faster.
6–10 hours in the 2–8 °C range on a single 10,400 mAh charge, depending on ambient temperature and how often you open the lid. You can recharge from any USB-C power bank to extend that indefinitely.
A smart card that lives inside the Thermova Case, continuously logging temperature and streaming it to your phone over Bluetooth. It produces a signed, time-stamped temperature receipt for every journey.
Pharmacists, insurers, and clinicians cannot legally guarantee a medication's potency if there is any uncertainty about the cold chain. A cryptographically signed log removes that uncertainty.
The CryoKey runs on its own independent battery and keeps logging temperature. Even if the active cooling stops, you still get the full transport history when you arrive.
Frio and evaporative coolers only delay warming — they cannot hold 2–8 °C in hot weather and have no log. Gel-pack coolers can drop below freezing and destroy insulin. Thermova actively regulates the temperature and proves it.
Yes. The 2–8 °C range covers mRNA vaccines (once thawed), conventional vaccines, and most biologics. The signed log is the same format clinics already use for cold-chain audits.
Yes — Humira (adalimumab), Enbrel (etanercept), Ozempic and Wegovy (semaglutide), Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and similar biologics all require strict 2–8 °C storage. Thermova was built for exactly this class of medication.
Gonal-F, Menopur, Cetrotide and similar fertility drugs are temperature-sensitive and expensive. Patients travelling for IVF cycles use Thermova to bring stims with them without risking a cycle.
Yes, but the pen must stay 2–8 °C until first use. Thermova is the cleanest way to do that — no melting ice, no guesswork, no spoiled pen at €300+ per box.
Not immediately. Brief excursions to ~30 °C are tolerated, but cumulative heat exposure adds up across a trip. The CryoKey log shows you exactly what happened, so you don't have to guess.
Visually you often can't tell. Rapid-acting insulins may look slightly cloudy or have crystals; long-acting may clump. Loss of potency usually shows up as unexplained high blood sugar. The only reliable check is the temperature log.
Frozen insulin often looks frosty, develops floating particles, or appears slightly yellow. Discard it — even one freeze cycle inactivates it. This is why gel ice packs are dangerous; Thermova never goes below the safe range.
Mini-bars often run at 8–14 °C, not the 2–8 °C pharmacy range, and they swing widely. We recommend keeping medication in the Thermova Case and topping up charge overnight.
Yes. A parked car can hit 60 °C+ in summer, which destroys insulin in under an hour. Plug Thermova into a 12 V or USB-C car outlet to keep it cold indefinitely.
It is splash-resistant (IP54-equivalent), built for real travel — rain, spills, condensation. Do not submerge it.
Roughly 1.1 kg empty — light enough for a backpack or handbag and approved as carry-on.
About 2.5 hours from empty via USB-C PD. You can also pre-cool the case in 10–15 minutes from a wall outlet before leaving.
No. The CryoKey uses Bluetooth Low Energy — typical impact is under 1 % per hour. You can also close the app; the CryoKey keeps logging on its own.
Yes. The CryoKey logs locally, and the app syncs to the cloud when you have signal. Receipts can be generated offline.
It proves the medication never left 2–8 °C during your custody, with a cryptographic signature that anyone (pharmacy, insurer, clinician) can verify against Thermova's public key.

Two years on the case and one year on the CryoKey, covering manufacturing defects and battery degradation beyond spec.
Up to 12 months of continuous logging on the built-in cell. It's user-replaceable, and the app warns you weeks before it runs out.
Yes — one tap exports a signed PDF you can email to your clinic or upload to a patient portal.
No. Thermova is built for transport and travel (hours to a few days). Long-term storage still belongs in a 2–8 °C medical fridge.
Yes. Growth hormone (Genotropin, Norditropin, Omnitrope), pediatric biologics and similar therapies are exactly what Thermova was built for — temperature-strict, expensive, and travel-disruptive without it.
Ask for the cold-chain log. If they can't produce one, request a replacement. The CryoKey gives you a tool to verify storage from the moment you take custody.
Yes. It is a personal medical device. Carry your prescription and the device datasheet (downloadable from the app) if asked.
No subscription is required for personal use. Cloud sync, app, and receipt generation are included. Clinical/fleet dashboards are available as a paid tier.
Wipe the interior with 70 % isopropyl alcohol or a medical-grade disinfectant wipe. Do not submerge or autoclave.
A solid-state Peltier active-cooling system with a smart thermal buffer. No gel packs to freeze, no liquid to leak, no compressor noise.
Under 25 dB — quieter than a whisper. You can sleep next to it.
Yes. Pair it with a 20,000 mAh USB-C power bank for multi-day trips. The CryoKey will document every hour.
2–8 °C with ±0.5 °C precision in ambient conditions from -10 °C up to +43 °C.
Increasingly yes — several EU insurers already accept Thermova's signed receipts as proof of correct storage for medication replacement claims.
Yes. Pharmacies use Thermova for home delivery, courier handoffs, and clinic transfers where a signed cold-chain proof is required.
It means a temperature-sensitive medication stayed within its specified temperature window from manufacturer to patient. Any deviation ('excursion') puts potency and safety at risk.
Biologics are large, fragile protein molecules. Heat causes them to denature (lose their shape) and aggregate, which means loss of potency and a higher risk of immune reactions.
mRNA is chemically unstable and degrades quickly above its specified range. Even after thawing to 2–8 °C, it has a limited usable window.
Because Thermova is the only travel cooler that combines active 2–8 °C cooling, an independent temperature monitor (CryoKey), and a cryptographically signed log. Cheaper coolers do one of those things at best — none of them prove anything.
Order on our Shop page, charge the case, drop in your medication and pair the CryoKey with the app. You're protected from the next trip onwards.
