1. How long can insulin stay out of the fridge?

Most modern insulins are safe for 28 days at room temperature (≤ 30 °C), but some long-acting analogs such as Toujeo (42 days) and Tresiba (56 days) tolerate longer windows. Once the carton says 'discard after X days at room temp', that clock starts the moment it leaves 2–8 °C — even if you put it back in the fridge.

2. What temperature damages insulin?

Insulin loses potency rapidly above 30 °C and is destroyed if frozen below 0 °C. A single freeze cycle is enough to ruin a vial or pen, which is why simple ice packs are risky — they often drop below 0 °C against the medicine.

3. Can I refrigerate insulin again after it's been at room temperature?

Yes, but the room-temperature 'in-use' clock keeps ticking. Putting it back in the fridge does not reset the 28-day window. The Thermova Case keeps insulin in the 2–8 °C band the whole time, so the in-use clock never starts during transport.

4. Is it safe to take insulin on a plane?

8. Why do I need a temperature log?

Pharmacists, insurers, and clinicians cannot legally guarantee a medication's potency if there is any uncertainty about the cold chain. A cryptographically signed log removes that uncertainty.

9. What happens if the case battery dies mid-trip?

The CryoKey runs on its own independent battery and keeps logging temperature. Even if the active cooling stops, you still get the full transport history when you arrive.

10. How is Thermova different from a Frio pouch or a normal cooler bag?

Frio and evaporative coolers only delay warming — they cannot hold 2–8 °C in hot weather and have no log. Gel-pack coolers can drop below freezing and destroy insulin. Thermova actively regulates the temperature and proves it.

23. Will the app drain my phone battery?

No. The CryoKey uses Bluetooth Low Energy — typical impact is under 1 % per hour. You can also close the app; the CryoKey keeps logging on its own.

24. Does the app work offline?

Yes. The CryoKey logs locally, and the app syncs to the cloud when you have signal. Receipts can be generated offline.

25. What does the signed receipt actually prove?

46. What is cold-chain integrity?

It means a temperature-sensitive medication stayed within its specified temperature window from manufacturer to patient. Any deviation ('excursion') puts potency and safety at risk.

47. Why do biologics need 2–8 °C?

Biologics are large, fragile protein molecules. Heat causes them to denature (lose their shape) and aggregate, which means loss of potency and a higher risk of immune reactions.

48. Why do mRNA vaccines need cold storage?

mRNA is chemically unstable and degrades quickly above its specified range. Even after thawing to 2–8 °C, it has a limited usable window.
